The 100 Books Project is an initiative that was started in Bangalore in May 2018 to establish libraries in low resource schools by donating books for children aged 6 to 12 years. We also help set up library systems and create a reading culture in the school.
In less than a month we received over 150 books (both new and used) which we’re distributing to schools
Many thanks to the mothers and grandmothers at Zed Collective, Yelahanka and Townsend, Yelahanka, Bangalore as well as to three anonymous friends of Latha’s Library for their generous donations (you know who you are).
Follow the progress of the project on our blog.
If you have used books in good condition that you wish to donate, we will find them a new home where they will be loved and cherished by many children. We’re looking for creatively written fiction and non-fiction books that are readable, attractive and relevant to Indian children.
You can also donate new books from our Indian and international wish lists by ordering them online through Amazon or Flipkart or sourcing them directly from publishers (we’ll help with the latter). And if you know a school that needs a library please let us know.
In view of the COVID situation and closure of schools across India, this project is currently suspended. However, that should not stop you from gifting books to children in your neighbourhood. Children and teens are currently dealing with various anxieties associated with COVID and reading is a great way to deal with the difficult feelings created by the pandemic and social distancing norms.
